About Healing Touch for Animals® (HTA)
Animals experience life much like we do. They can feel and express love, pleasure, and joy. Sadly, they can also experience pain, heartbreak, and trauma. Healing Touch for Animals® can help animals experiencing stress, anxiety, or trauma relax and feel more comfortable. It can also support healing from illness or injury by gently balancing the animal’s energy system, promoting a sense of well-being, and potentially speeding up recovery. Even healthy animals can benefit from HTA to maintain overall wellness and prevent future issues by fostering a sense of calm and promoting a balanced energy state.
What is HTA?
HTA is a gentle, natural way to improve the health and well-being of animals. It focuses on balancing and strengthening an animal’s energetic body to support their physical, emotional, mental, and instinctual well-being. The practitioner will assess an animal’s energy system and use techniques like gentle touch, aromatherapy, and sound therapy to help restore harmony and encourage healing by allowing the body to enter a state of deep relaxation, which activates its own self-healing mechanisms. When the energy system is flowing freely, the animal’s physiology can function optimally, supporting the body’s inherent ability to heal and maintain health.

Who is HTA For?
HTA can benefit all types of animals, including pets like dogs, cats, and horses, as well as birds, fish, exotic species, and even humans!
What Takes Place During an HTA Session?
Upon meeting the animal, the HTA Practitioner assesses the animal’s energy system. The Practitioner then uses specific HTA techniques to clear, balance, and strengthen the animal’s energy system. Typically, the first response noticed is relaxation, which is the foundation for optimal health and well-being.
Does HTA Take the Place of Veterinary Care?
HTA works as a cooperative adjunct with traditional veterinary medicine to provide the very best health care for animals. HTA Practitioners work in conjunction with any veterinarian-diagnosed and prescribed treatment program. As a cooperative application, HTA bridges holistic animal health care with traditional veterinary science and interventions.
What are the Benefits of HTA?
- Support Natural Healing: HTA sessions aim to restore balance and harmony, enhancing the body’s own healing processes. Helpful for recovery from injuries or chronic conditions.
- Address Emotional & Behavioral Concerns: HTA can alleviate separation anxiety, fear, aggression, or other challenges.
- Preventive Care: Regular HTA sessions maintain overall well-being and energetic balance.
- Deepen the Human–Animal Bond: Gentle, nurturing HTA strengthens the connection between pet and caregiver, fostering trust and relaxation.

How Does HTA Compare with Other Modalities?
HTA and Reiki: Both use energy to heal. Reiki balances energy generally, while HTA applies structured, targeted techniques for specific needs.
HTA and Tellington Touch (TTouch): HTA works with energy centers (chakras) and the surrounding field. TTouch uses hands-on manipulation and acupressure at points on the body.
HTA and Animal Massage: HTA balances energy and promotes relaxation. Massage manipulates soft tissues to improve circulation and release tension. Both support natural healing in different ways.
About the Founder of HTA
Carol Komitor’s healing journey began in 1989 at the Colorado School of Healing Arts, where she studied massage and energy therapy. Her work with human clients in the Healing Touch Program™ showed her the power of energy healing. Combining this with 13 years as a veterinary technician, Carol saw how energy therapy affected animals and recognized the need for an animal-specific program. She went on to create Healing Touch for Animals® (HTA), now an internationally recognized program.
